Castara village is on the west coast of Tobago, 40 minutes from the airport. It is a small and delightful fishing village situated on the edge of the rainforest in an undeveloped area facing the sunsets of the Caribbean Ocean. The beach is only a two minute walk down the winding path and the village is just a four minute walk where fresh fish, vegetables, home made bread and general necessities can be found each day.
Castara Retreats is superbly located overlooking the bay of Castara on Tobago with stunning views of the Caribbean and mountains. Set right above the beach, backed by the deep green of the oldest protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere and framed by mango trees and bamboo, it offers Tobago accommodation that allows you to "live in the landscape”.
The accommodation consists of a penthouse apartment (2 bedrooms) with two one bedroom apartments below (each sleeping two) that can be rented for holidays separately or combined for larger groups plus a renovated Fisherman's Lodge (1 bedroom) and two newly-built lodges - Coasthanger (1 bedroom) and Birdsong (2 bedrooms). The apartments and lodges are specially designed to create open, spacious living areas that allow uninterrupted views, cool sea breezes and the natural sights and sounds that surround the property. The timber buildings are designed to allow man and nature to live in mutual respect, while the newly-built lodges sit independently within their own environment and offer more privacy and luxury.
Outside is an acre of gardens with sun terraces, barbecues and shady spots where you can relax under the mango trees and listen to the mot-mots calling. Purpose-designed deck areas are as perfect for birders as they are for watching the manta rays in the bay below or the spectacular Caribbean sunsets.
We would point out to readers that the apartments are located on a hillside overlooking the beach. This accommodation may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties or who easily get out of breath.
